Overview
Enhanced the fitness app's design system and redesigned the onboarding and dashboard pages for a better user experience.
Project scope
Developing a new design style guide and enhanced the user experience and interface for the onboarding and dashboard screens.
deliverable
Establish new typography and color guidelines, and created high-fidelity wireframes.
Background
A new startup fitness app that provides personalized workout templates for users of all ages, with a special feature for injury recovery workouts.

Problem

The dashboard is designed to provide a quick overview of user status. However, it was cluttered with non-essential features and suffered from poor readability.
The onboarding process was hectic due to an unorganized design system. Since it requires extensive user information, each step needs to be clearer and more organized.
possible solution
  • Ensure consistent design across all screens
  • Remove unnecessary features from the dashboard
  • Provide better user flow on the dashboard

Ideate

Organized the dashboard layout by removing unnecessary features and planned the arrangement of essential ones. Started sketching the dashboard screen
And then, I narrowed down the design to these two dashboard sketches, Ver1 & Ver2.
In both proposals, I removed the right top profile tab to declutter the interface and avoid overwhelming users with too many features on one page. I replaced 'Notification' in the navigation bar with 'Profile' for improved usability.
Ver 1
Ver 2
Considering the 'Goal' pages were designed separately by, I found Dashboard version 1 to integrate seamlessly and be developer-friendly. We adopted Dashboard version 1 accordingly.

Design System

After making user journey map, I made user flows and based on that, conducted card sorting with 12 participants. This is final site map below based on card sorting result.

Learning

I joined the project after all flows and screens were designed. Although some parts could benefit from improved user flow, changing the entire user flow was beyond the project scope and would have required significant development effort. Through this project, I learned how to achieve the most efficient outcome within constraints and gained experience in designing interfaces for complex screens.
Thank you for exploring this far!
